Signups for the Parallels Fic Exchange 2012 have started - although strictly speaking it will be a multimedia exchange. I'll offer fic though. :)

Details about the exchange can be found @ [livejournal.com profile] parallelsfic. Signup announcment is here. And here you can look up what people have nominated.

Expect my Dear Writer letter soonish. :D I'm still trying to decide the details of my signup.

Is it true there is (another) purge going on an ff.net? What’s it about this time? I never used the site for uploading, but there are a few fandoms that have fic only on that one site. Are they trying to clean up their content again, or what?

I’ve written three little stories for[livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking. RL was a bit crazy or I would have tried to do more. But that’s the fun of [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking: It’s so low pressure.

I also found some pretty awesome stuff in my own stocking! A big thank you to all the people leaving greetings, recs, icons and fic. (Especially to navaan for the wonderful Star Wars ficlet called Family. I remember us talking about that scenario and now I’m really wondering what it would have been like for the twins if their roles had been reversed.)

That was another fun experiences, although I wish there had been more/manga anime stuff inspiring me to write. (The anime presence overall wasn’t that small, but was mostly centered around big fandoms like Hagaren and so on. That’s awesome too, of course, just didn’t inspire me to write much this time around...;P )

Why Ao3?

I know I was one of these people who stay away from the big archives on the net that “everyone” is part of. My reasons for this are actually very personal: I often just didn’t like the look and feel of these archives. For example I don’t like browsing fanfiction.net. Not for any “quality reasons” but because I didn’t like the browsing functions and I hate the way comments are called “reviews” and a lot of little stuff. So back when they banned the evil “adult” stuff they lost me completely. (Not so much because I think fic should be all about the sex, but because I hate it when writers are excluded solely because they chose a more “adult” form of expression. Many of us started writing fanfiction with the feeling we had to be ashamed of it in the first place and I don’t think further shaming should be implemented in an archive for fanfiction.)

That’s me. Other people love the archive there and that’s fine with me.

But I’ve been browsing Ao3 for a while and I really like their tagging and warning system. It makes it easy to find what I want to read. And as of now the over all quality of stories is pretty high, due in part to the fact that the archive is still pretty much only known in certain lj circles. Their trying to be as inclusive as possible and accessible. Reading on the archive is very comfortable and there is even the possibility to download in e-reader formats.

I identify with aims - although I’ve come to understand that there are people who feel uncomfortable about some of them - and feel it’s the right place to be at the moment.

So, yeah, that’s why for the first time, I have an account on an archive and I may even start uploading all my stuff... Go figure.

Getting started

I'm not really used to blogging and I'm not sure, yet, what will be put up on this journal. I guess I'll figure this out while using it. :)

Anyway. I have been away from online fanfiction fandom for a while, but never stoped lurking and reading and I felt it was time to get back to actually take part again.
I'm considering to put up my older stuff on A03 (maybe orphaning the fiction I'm not that confortable with anymore). And with all the interesting challanges and fanfiction communities on livejorunal and friends posting their stuff here, I thouhght that it was time to give it a try.

I think most of my things will be posted to A03 directly, but let's see how participation on lj turns out.
